Japan's new ship export orders surge in October from September level

According to the data released by the Japan Ship Exporters' Association (JSEA), Japanese new ship export orders in October this year increased by 168.8 percent on tonnage basis compared to September but decreased by 12.9 percent year on year, amounting to 17 ships, up from 12 ships recorded in September, totaling 1.22 million gross tons, consisting of 12 bulk carriers, three general cargos and two tankers. In October 2013, Japan's new ship export orders had totaled 29 ships amounting to 1.4 million gross tons.
 
In the January-October period this year, Japanese shipbuilders received new export orders for a total of 302 ships with an aggregate of 13.29 million gross tons, increasing by 16.2 percent year on year. 
 
On the other hand, in October this year Japan delivered 27 ships for export, totaling 1.44 million gross tons, decreasing from 31 ships totaling 1.3 million gross tons recorded in September. In October 2013, Japan's new ship deliveries for export had totaled 23 ships with 941,839 gross tons. Meanwhile, in the first 10 months of this year, Japan delivered 249 ships for export, totaling 10.61 million gross tons, decreasing by 7.3 percent year on year.
