Japan's new ship export orders increase in 2013

According to the data released by the Japan Ship Exporters' Association (JSEA), Japanese new ship export orders in December last year increased by 55.41 percent on tonnage basis compared to November, amounting to 44 ships compared to 36 ships recorded in November, totaling 1.93 million gross tons, consisting of five product carriers and 39 bulk carriers. In December 2012, Japan's new ship export orders had totaled 20 ships with 656,290 gross tons.
 
At the end of 2013, Japanese shipbuilders' order books for export totaled 362 ships, with a total tonnage of 14.62 million gross tons, up 79.84 percent year on year. 
 
Meanwhile, in December, Japan delivered 11 ships totaling 565,705 gross tons for export, decreasing from 22 ships totaling 1.07 million gross tons recorded in November last year. In 2013, Japan delivered 286 ships for export, totaling 12.71 million gross tons, decreasing by 15.54 percent compared to 2012.
