In December last year, Japanese crude steel production was up 0.2 percent compared to the previous month and increased 0.1 percent compared to December 2016, totaling 8.72 million mt, according to the data released by the Japan Iron and Steel Federation (JISF).
Meanwhile, in December 2017, Japan's pig iron production totaled 6.6 million metric tons, rising by 2.4 percent compared to the previous month and increasing by 0.3 percent year on year.
In 2017, the country's pig iron output stood at 78.33 million metric tons, down 2.3 percent, while its crude steel production came to 104.66 million metric tons, falling 0.1 percent, both on year-on-year basis.
