Indonesian steelmaker PT Gunung has ordered a single-strand slab caster from Germany-based plantmaker SMS Siemag. The slab caster will be used in the company's Bekasi works in West Java, Indonesia, producing sections and wire rods, as well as heavy plates and pipes.

The caster will produce slabs of 220 mm and 250 mm thickness, between 800 mm and 2,100 mm wide, with an annual capacity of 1.2 million mt. The high quality slabs produced at the new caster will be further processed in PT Gunung's own Steckel and heavy plate mill.

The new caster is scheduled to be commissioned in mid-2013.
