Indonesia receives exemptions from US Section 232 duties for 19 steel products

Indonesia's Ministry of Trade has announced that Indonesia has received exemptions from the 25 percent additional duties of the United States (US) for 19 steel products, including carbon and alloy steel products and stainless steel. Indonesia had previously obtained exceptions for carbon and alloy steel products with a total volume of more than 6,784 mt and for aluminum products totaling 1,680 mt.

According to Enggartiasto Lukita, Indonesia's Trade Minister, there are still 12 requests for exclusion of Indonesian steel products with a quantity of more than 336,688 mt and 276 requests for exclusion of Indonesian aluminum products with a quantity of more than 367,351 mt that have not received a decision from the US government. Mr. Lukita said that the Indonesian government will continue to conduct intensive communication with the US for these requests as well.

Based on the data from the Indonesian Central Bureau of Statistics (BPS), the value of Indonesia's steel exports to the US in the January-June period of the current year reached $139 million, rising by 78 percent from the same period in 2017.
