Indian-government owned NMDC Limited is seeking a mine developer operator (MDO) for its Deposit 13, an iron ore block located in the central Indian state of Chhattisgarh, company sources said on Monday, January 29.

The sources said that the greenfield iron ore block will be developed by the newly-floated joint venture between NMDC Limited and the Chhattisgarh government, christened NMDC-CMDC Limited.

The mining lease for Deposit 12 which has been held by NMDC Limited was transferred to the joint venture and the appointment of an MDO will aim to bring the block into production by 2019, the sources said, adding that the production will be for supplies to sponge iron manufacturers in the central Indian region.
