India’s largest iron ore miner NMDC Limited has commenced trial production at its 1.2 million mt per year iron ore pelletization plant at Bellary in the southern Indian state of Karnataka, according to a Ministry of Steel report released on Tuesday, April 25.

The report said that the pellet plant linked to NMDC’s Donimalai iron ore reserves in the region is part of the miner’s plans for forward integration of mining operations and for adding value to the raw material.

NMDC is also constructing a 2 million mt per year iron ore pellet plant at its Bacheli iron ore mines that will be linked to the company’s 3 million mt per year steel mill under construction at the nearby Nagarmar location and which is scheduled for completion later this year, the report said.
