Global crude steel output up 7.5 percent in Jan-Nov

According to the World Steel Association (worldsteel), in November this year the crude steel output of 64 countries surveyed across the globe reached 115.5 million mt, increasing by 1.1 percent on year-on-year basis. Total global crude steel production decreased 6.4 percent on month-on-month basis in November, from the 123.45 million mt recorded in October. Total global crude steel output in the first 11 months of the year was 1.37 billion mt, up by 7.5 percent year on year.
 
In November, crude steel output in Asia amounted to 72.1 million mt, up by 0.9 percent, with 49.9 million mt produced by China, down by 0.5 percent, 8.7 million mt produced by Japan, down by 3.25 percent, and 5.8 million mt produced by South Korea, up by 12.4 percent - with all comparisons on year-on-year basis.

EU-27 countries produced 14.24 million mt of crude steel in November, down 2.8 percent compared with November 2010. In November this year, Germany's output was 3.5 million mt, down by 10 percent year on year, Italy's crude steel output was 2.6 million mt, up 11.5 percent year on year, and Spain's crude steel output was 1.2 million mt, down 10.7 percent year on year.

Turkey produced 2.85 million metric tons of crude steel in November this year, with a 14 percent increase over the same month in 2010, while Iran's crude steel output decreased by 1.5 percent year on year, reaching an estimated figure of 1 million metric tons.

The CIS registered a crude steel output of 9.1 million mt in November, down two percent year on year, with Russia producing an estimated figure of 5.6 million mt, down by 2.5 percent, and Ukraine producing an estimated 2.9 million mt, down 0.8 percent, both on year-on-year basis.

In North America in November, crude steel output reached 9.9 million mt, up 9.4 percent year on year, with the US producing 7.2 million mt and Mexico producing 1.5 million mt, up 11.8 percent and 0.5 percent respectively on year-on-year basis.
 
Meanwhile, crude steel output in South America in November reached 3.9 million mt, up by 6.4 percent year on year, with Brazil's output reaching 2.7 million mt, up by 5.4 percent year on year.
 
In the given month, the average capacity utilization of steel mills across the globe was 73.4 percent, down by 2.8 percentage points month on month, and also up 2.6 percentage point compared to the same month last year.
