Spanish energy producer Iberdrola has announced that its German subsidiary Iberdrola Deutschland and German steelmaker SHS (Stahl-Holding-Saar) have signed a 15-year power supply agreement.

Around 50 MW from the Baltic Eagle offshore wind farm in the Baltic Sea to be supplied by Iberdrola will cover 200 GWh of SHS’ annual consumption, allowing the latter to sustainably transform the operations of its subsidiaries Saarstahl and Dillinger while reducing carbon emissions from its steel production in the future.

SHS aims to produce 3.5 million mt of steel with lower emissions from 2030 and achieve carbon neutral steel production by 2045.
