French economy minister Bruno Le Maire has said that four offers have been received, three of which are serious, for the Hayange steel plant of UK-based British Steel, according to local French media reports.
While the French government official has not revealed the names of the interested parties, sources close to the matter have hinted that the bidders include ArcelorMittal, Germany’s Saarstahl, Olympus Steel and Liberty House.
The plant is considered a strategic asset as a supplier for the French national railway company SNCF, and, as a result, the sale requires government approval.
Earlier this week, China’s Jingye Steel said that it is about to complete that takeover of British Steel, though the uncertainty regarding the Hayange plant continued.
