According to first estimates released by Eurostat, the Statistical Office of the European Communities, in February this year the seasonally-adjusted production of the construction sector in the European Union member states (EU-28) decreased by 0.8 percent compared to January and was down by 0.1 percent compared to the same month of 2017. In January, production decreased by 1.1 percent compared to the previous month.
In the euro area, the seasonally-adjusted production of the construction sector in February decreased by 0.5 percent month on month and rose by 0.4 percent year on year. In January, production decreased by 0.8 percent compared to December, according to the newly revised data.
Building construction in the EU-28 in February declined by 0.2 percent month on month and was up 0.6 percent year on year, while civil engineering output in the region decreased by 2.7 percent from January and was down by 3.8 percent year on year. In the euro area, building construction decreased by 0.1 percent month on month and was up 1.7 percent year on year, while civil engineering output in the region declined by 1.7 percent month on month and decreased by 4.6 percent year on year.
As compared to February 2017, construction output in February this year increased by 31.3 percent in Poland, by 26.1 percent in Hungary and by 10.6 percent in Romania, while it decreased by 5.3 percent in Belgium, by 3.9 percent in the UK and by three percent in France.
As compared to January, construction output in February this year increased by 4.7 percent in Romania, by 2.7 percent in France and by 0.9 percent in Spain, while construction output decreased by 14.0 percent in Bulgaria, by 13.1 percent in Slovenia and by five percent in Hungary.
