During an online meeting held on August 7 between Ömer Bolat, Turkey’s trade minister, and Valdis Dombrovskis, the European Commissioner for Trade, the issues of development and deepening of trade relations between Turkey and the EU, and updating the Custom Union Agreement were discussed, according to a statement issued by Turkey’s Ministry of Commerce.

Prior to the negotiations regarding updating the agreement between the two sides, a trade working group will be formed to resolve the problems faced in the functioning of the agreement and to discuss possible cooperations. The parties will meet again in Brussels at the end of September.

The trade volume between the EU and Turkey broke a record by reaching $200 million in 2022.
