Direct investment in Ukraine rises

Ukraine's State Statistics Committee said that foreign direct investments in Ukraine's economy since 1992 totaled $8.35 billion by the end of 2004. Foreign direct investment in Ukraine amounted to $1.93 billion in 2004. CIS member countries accounted for 4.2% of the total amount, which equals to $80.2 million. The bulk of Ukraine's direct investment came from abroad. Investments from the US totaled $1.15 billion, EU-member Cyprus $1.04 million, UK $895.9 million, Germany $631.6 million, the Netherlands $547.3 million, Virgin Islands $543.8 million, Russia $457.5 million, Switzerland $411.3 million and Austria $345.6 million.
