Brazilian steelmaker Companhia Siderurgica Nacional (CSN) told SteelOrbis output was not affected following a blast this week at the company’s Volta Redonda or Presidente Prudente mill, located in the city of Volta Redonda in Rio de Janeiro state.

The company said production has been sustained, and there were no injuries reported in the blast, which was a result of a chemical reaction at the mill’s flat steelworks area. CSN said converter C, which was affected during the blast, resumed functioning the same day of the incident on March 28.

SteelOrbis has learned CSN was loading scrap into Converter C at the mill’s flats steelworks area when the blast occurred.
