Brazilian steelmaker Companhia Siderurgica Nacional (CSN) estimated recently it would require a further BRL 6.7 billion investment to complete delayed railway Transnordestina, according to a media report.

CSN spent about BRL 6.4 billion to build parts of the 1,073-mile railway project connecting 81 cities in Brazil. It was expected to be completed in 2010, but was delayed to 2021, then 2019, and more recently to 2027. CSN said the railway’s connection to the port of Suape would be the project’s last stage.

Brazil’s upper house of congress requested the board of Transnordestina Logistica (TLSA), the company responsible for building the Transnordestina railway, to discuss the details of the project in a public hearing with the nation’s audit court, TCU, and ground transportation regulator ANTT.
