Coal exports from Australia’s Newcastle port decrease

In the week ended September 30, coal shipments from the Port of Newcastle in Queensland, the coal producing state of Australia, totaled 2.68 million mt, according to Newcastle Port Corporation. The figure constitutes a decrease of 8.4 percent compared to the previous week ended September 23, in which a week-on-week decrease of 3 percent in coal shipments had been observed.

In the September 1-30 period, Newcastle port exported 11.55 million mt of thermal and coking coal.

Anglo American, Peabody Energy, Rio Tinto and Xstrata are some of the larger exporters to ship coal from Newcastle port.
