CIS pig iron production rises in Jan-Sept
According to data issued by Rudprom - the Association of Russian Iron Ore Producers - for the January-September 2006 period, Russian enterprises increased pig iron production by 9.5 percent year on year to 38.06 million metric tons. In particular during the period in question, Severstal indicated a 1.7 percent increase, MMK showed a 5.7 percent increase, while NLMK saw a 19.3 percent rise in pig iron production. During the first nine months of 2006, Ukraine raised pig iron production by 7.6 percent year on year to 24.27 million metric tons. Among the Ukrainian enterprises, Makeevsk MZ showed a 96 percent increase, Enakievsk indicated a 14.3 percent increase, Alchevsk saw a 5 percent increase, Mittal Steel Kriviy Rih indicated a 10.1 percent increase, while Ilych recorded a 5.2 percent increase in pig iron production during the period in question. During the period in question, joint (Russia and Ukraine) pig iron production rose 8.8 percent year on year to 62.33 million metric tons.
