China’s steel plate imports up 5.4 percent in January-May

In May this year, China’s import volumes of steel bars and angles/channels amounted to 110,000 mt and 50,000 mt, up 6.3 percent and 38.7 percent, respectively, year on year, while import volumes of steel plate, and steel pipes and hollow profiles amounted to 900,000 mt, and 30,000 mt, down 0.2 percent and 5.2 percent, respectively, year on year, according to the monthly import and export data issued by the Chinese customs authorities.

In the January-May period of the year, China’s import volumes of steel bars, angles/channels, steel plate, and steel pipes and hollow profiles amounted to 530,000 mt, 170,000 mt, 4.71 million mt, and 160,000 mt, up 10.2 percent, 33.4 percent, 5.4 percent and 2.7 percent, respectively, year on year.

According to previous report, in May this year, China imported 1.11 million mt of finished steel, up 2.78 percent month on month and increasing by 1.8 percent year on year. In the January-May period, China’s imports of finished steel totaled 5.67 million mt, rising by 6.5 percent year on year.
