According to specialists from coking coal, steel, logistics and investment companies in China, in 2011 the country's coking coal output will reach 513 million mt, while coking coal demand in China for the year will total 569 million mt. Demand would thus exceed domestic output for the year by 56 million mt.

The specialists also expressed the view that the worldwide shortage of coking coal supply will push prices upward in 2011. Chinese coking coal imports are likely to come mainly from Mongolia and Russia.

China has limited coking coal reserves. The coking coal reserves of China's Shanxi Province account for 52.percent of national reserves and the province's coking coal output is over 20 percent of national total output or equal to around 13 percent of global coking coal output.
