Indian media sources have stated that the Steel Ministry of India is to sign a memorandum of understanding (MoU) next month with China's National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC) regarding the issue of coking coal supplies from China to India's steelmakers.

The agreement will also cover further cooperation between the two countries in the iron and steel industry. The two sides are to agree on the transfer of technology in steel and ferroalloys, and also to carry out joint coking coal mining activities through certain joint ventures and biddings.

In this context, the planned agreemeent is also expected to include a clause to secure long-term iron ore supplies from China to India. The two countries may also cooperate in sintering and pelletizing iron ore, manganese and chrome ore.
