Canadian rig count surges week-on-week while US count dips slightly

Baker Hughes has reported that for the week ending December 15 the US rotary rig count decreased by one to 930 rigs following a two-rig increase the week before. The number of rigs drilling for gas increased by three to 183 while the number of rigs drilling for oil decreased by four to 747. The overall rig count is now up by 293 rigs in a year-on-year comparison.

Meanwhile, the Canadian rig count increased by 19 to 238 rigs in the week ending December 15 following a three-rig decrease the week before. The Canadian rig count is now up by four rigs from the same week a year ago.
