Canadian rig count soars again while US count continues steady upward trend

Baker Hughes has reported that for the week ending June 16, the US rotary rig count increased by six to 933 following an 11-rig increase the week before. The number of rigs drilling for gas increased by one to 186, while the number of rigs drilling for oil increased by six to 747. The overall rig count is now up by 509 rigs in a year-on-year comparison.
 
Meanwhile, the Canadian rig count increased by 27 to 159 rigs in the week ending June 16, following a 33-rig increase the week before. The Canadian rig count is now up by 90 rigs from the same week a year ago.
