Canadian rig count reverses uptrend while US count edges up

Baker Hughes has reported that for the week ending December 22 the US rotary rig count increased by one to 931 rigs following a one-rig decrease the week before. The number of rigs drilling for gas increased by one to 184 while the number of rigs drilling for oil remained stable at 747. The overall rig count is now up by 278 rigs in a year-on-year comparison.

Meanwhile, the Canadian rig count decreased by 28 to 210 rigs in the week ending December 22 following a 19-rig increase the week before. The Canadian rig count is now down by 14 rigs from the same week a year ago.
