Canadian iron ore shipments rise 16.9 percent in September

According to Natural Resources Canada, shipments of iron ore in September totaled 3,820,711 mt, a 16.9 percent increase from August and a 23.8 percent increase from September 2016. Of that total, 271,462 mt was shipped to Canadian customers, while 3,549,249 mt was exported.

Year-to-date iron ore shipments totaled 32,656,020 mt in September, up 2.4 percent from the 31,877,916 mt shipped during the same period of 2016. Of the 2017 year-to-date total, 2,993,378 mt was sent to Canadian customers and 29,662,643 mt was exported.

Canadian iron ore stocks at the end of September totaled 2,963,548 mt, down 2.6 percent from August but up 6.5 percent from September 2016.
