Brazilian crude steel production reached 2.5 million mt in February, 9.1 percent less than in January, according to the country’s steel institute, IABr.
Under the same comparative basis, domestic sales of steel products declined by 7.2 percent to 1.5 million mt and exports increased by 10 percent to 1.1 million mt, while the apparent consumption of steel products in the country (domestic sale plus imports) declined by 9.9 percent to 1.8 million mt, with imports declining by 13.8 percent to 325,000 mt.
Considering the aggregate of January and February, crude steel production declined on yearly basis by 5.8 percent to 5.3 million mt, domestic sales increased by 2.6 percent to 3.1 million mt, exports declined by 4.9 percent to 2.0 million mt and imports increased by 16.5 percent to 702,000 mt, while the apparent consumption increased by 2.4 percent to 3.7 million mt.
