Brazilian exports of pig iron reached 251,800 mt in September, against 427,100 mt in August, according to customs data.

The decline reflects an absence of exports from producers in the north of Brazil, against 112,500 mt exported in August.

The main destinations in August were the US (210,700 mt at $428/mt), Asia (29,100 mt at $469/mt), Argentina (8,300 mt at $486/mt), Italy (3,000 mt at $437/mt) and Australia (700 mt at $502/mt), all FOB conditions.

The shipments were from producers in the southeastern states of Minas Gerais and Espirito Santo (209,800 mt at $439), and Mato Grosso do Sul, in the central western region (42,000 mt at $417/mt).

During the first nine months of 2023, Brazil exported a total of 2.81 million mt of pig iron, against 2.83 million mt during the same period of 2022.
