The Brazilian production of crude steel reached 2.559 million mt in December 2025, comparable to 2.609 million mt in December 2024, according to the Brazilian steel institute, IABr.
On a comparative basis, the production of rolled products declined by 13.4 percent to 1.474 million mt, with the production of flat products declining by 6.5 percent to 980,000 mt and the production of long products declining by 24.5 percent to 493,000 mt.
Similarly, domestic sales of steel products increased by 2.5 percent to 1.592 million mt and the apparent consumption of steel products increased by 3.8 percent to 1.923 million mt, while exports increased by 64.8 percent to 1.218 million mt and imports increased by 16.2 percent to 383,000 mt.
When comparing the years of 2025 and 2024, crude steel production declined by 1.6 percent to 33.347 million mt, the production of rolled products declined by 1.7 percent at 23.281 million mt, and the production of semifinished products for sale declined by 4.9 percent to 8.793 million mt.
Still in this timeframe, domestic sales of steel products declined by 0.4 percent to 21.205 million mt, the apparent consumption increased by 2.6 percent to 26.783 million mt, imports increased by 7.4 percent to 6.400 million mt, an all-time record, and exports increased by 14.7 percent to 10.980 million mt.
According to IABr, a survey conducted among steel industry executives indicates a pessimistic assessment of the present economic conditions, while there is cautious optimism regarding the outlook for the next six months.
