Brazilian crude steel output increases in June and H1

Brazilian crude steel output in June rose 45.2 percent, year-over-year, to 3.1 million mt, according to a report from the local steel association, IABr, this week.

Domestic steel sales in June totaled 2.1 million mt, 32.8 percent up, year-over-year. Apparent steel consumption in June was 2.5 million mt, 41.1 percent up, year-over-year.

Brazilian steel exports in June reached 916,000 mt in volume, 14.1 percent down, year-over-year, and $803 million in value, 69.9 percent up, year-over-year. Steel imports in June totaled 563,000 mt in volume, 195.5 percent up, year-over-year, and $500 million in value, 172.8 percent up, year-over-year.

As for H1, Brazilian crude steel output grew 24 percent, year-over-year, to 18.1 million mt. Domestic steel sales in H1 reached 12.1 million mt, 43.9 percent up, year-over-year. Apparent steel consumption in H1 increased 48.9 percent, year-over-year, to 14 million mt.

Brazilian steel exports in H1 totaled 5.2 million mt in volume, 13.7 percent down, year-over-year, and $3.8 billion in value, 28.3 percent up, year-over-year.
