Crude steel production in Argentina reached 424,300 mt in March against 359,400 mt in February, according to the country’s steel association Acero Argentino.
Under the same comparative basis, the production of HRC increased by 12.1 percent to 196,400 mt, while the production of CRC increased by 47.7 percent to 124,700 mt and the production of long products increased by 18.2 percent to 196,900 mt.
According to Acero Argentino, the increase of steel production in March reflects the low base of comparison to the previous month, due to stoppages for maintenance of equipment in different plants of the sector, coupled with lower number of working days in February.
In relation to the main steel demanding sectors, Acero Argentino mentioned that the civil construction sector has showed an improved performance in March, after a poor performance in February, with an increased number of large constructions being developed.
The auto industry remains showing a strong performance, increasing production by 28.1 percent in Q1 2023 from the same period in 2022.
The sector for machinery and equipment for agriculture still faces difficulties in closing fresh sales deals, due to the severe drought affecting the country, remaining limited to the previously closed sales deals.
Aceros Argentino added that the energy sector remains firm and with good perspectives, while the sector of domestic appliances now shows signs of stability, and the sector of packaging maintains a stable demand for steel products.
