ArcelorMittal has expanded its collaboration with Greek steel pipe manufacturer Corinth Pipeworks to accelerate the deployment of low-carbon steel solutions for energy infrastructure. The move marks a further step in the industry’s decarbonization efforts.

XCarb® steel introduced in pipe manufacturing

The partnership introduces, for the first time, the use of XCarb® recycled and renewably produced steel in the production of energy pipes. The material is produced via the electric arc furnace route using at least 75 percent recycled scrap and powered by 100 percent renewable electricity.

According to the company, XCarb® steel enables a reduction of up to 65 percent in carbon emissions compared to traditional blast furnace production. The product also supports customers in lowering indirect emissions and aligns with circular economy principles.

Focus on advanced energy infrastructure

By combining ArcelorMittal’s low-emission steel production capabilities with Corinth Pipeworks’ advanced manufacturing expertise, the collaboration aims to deliver high-performance pipeline solutions with a reduced environmental footprint. These solutions are designed for both conventional energy systems and emerging applications such as hydrogen transport infrastructure.

The integration of low-carbon steel into pipeline production is seen as a key step in developing resilient and future-ready energy networks. As demand for sustainable infrastructure increases, such collaborations are expected to play a critical role in shaping the next generation of energy systems.
