Brazilian steelmaker ArcelorMittal Brazil said this week it was awarded an environmental product declaration (EPD) for its domestic-produced rebar.

The certification, known as EDP, was issued by the German association of building product manufacturers, the Institut Bauen und Umwelt (IBU). According to IBU, an EPD is a document describing the environmental effects of building products based on a life cycle assessment with quantitative data.

ArcelorMittal Brazil said it was the first Brazilian steelmaker to get such a certification. The products certified by IBU are ArcelorMittal Brazil’s CA25 and CA50 rebar.
