As many as 33 iron ore mines in the western Indian state of Goa are expected to resume production this week having secured "consent to operate" from the local government, a senior local government official said on Monday, January 15.
The official said that the government has renewed the mining leases of 55 mines for the current mining season, of which 33 have been granted "consent to operate" over the past weeks and these mines will get back into operation over the next seven days.
Since the current mining season commenced on October 1, 2017, 12 mines have been in production and more mines are getting back into production, while the Supreme Court-mandated annual production limit of 20 million mt is likely to be achieved in the current mining season, the government official added.
