Local Chinese steel pipe prices mostly stable as sentiment stays calm

Local Chinese steel pipe prices have indicated a mostly stable trend during the past week.

As of September 18, in China's three main steel markets, i.e., Shanghai, Guangzhou and Beijing, the average price of 20# (GB/T8162-1999) grade 108 mm x 4.5 mm seamless pipe now stands at $606/mt (RMB 4,310/mt), with 20# (GB/T8163-1999) grade 219 mm x 6 mm seamless pipe at $597/mt (RMB 4,243/mt). Meanwhile, on the same date, Q195-215 grade 48 mm x 3.25 mm welded pipe and Q215-235 grade 114 mm x 3.75 mm welded pipe prices in the above markets are standing at $526/mt (RMB 3,740/mt) and $517/mt (RMB 3,673/mt) respectively. All the above prices include 13 percent VAT. 

Local Chinese seamless pipe prices have showed a mostly stable trend during the past seven days, even though billet prices have indicated some downticks. Overall trading activity has improved slightly and is considered to be at normal levels. As for the week ahead, it is believed that seamless pipe prices may fluctuate by small margins.

Local Chinese welded pipe prices have followed a sideways trend during past week, with the peak season for business giving traders the confidence to keep prices stable despite some decreases in steel strip prices. Overall trading activity is at normal levels. As for the week ahead, it is believed that welded pipe prices may just fluctuate slightly.
