Chinese steel pipe export offer prices move sideways

During the week ending June 12, average Chinese steel pipe export offer prices have moved on a stable trend. At present, export offers for API 5L seamless pipe given by Chinese suppliers are in the range of $620-710/mt FOB, while export offers for API 5L welded pipe given by Chinese suppliers are at $560-575/mt FOB.

During the given week, demand has been slack, weakening the support for steel pipe prices. In the first part of the given week, iron ore prices have moved down, also exerting some negative pressure on steel pipe prices. However, later in the given week, due to reports of an imminent supply shortage at Rio Tinto in July and August, iron ore futures prices at Dalian Commodity Exchange (DCE) indicated sharp rises, which also provided support for steel pipe prices. It is expected that steel pipe export prices from China will move sideways in the coming week.
