Chinese steel pipe export offer prices remain stable

During the week ending August 19, average Chinese steel pipe export offer prices have remained stable. At present, export offers for API 5L seamless pipe given by Chinese suppliers are in the range of $560-650/mt FOB, while export offers for API 5L welded pipe given by Chinese suppliers are at $505-535/mt FOB, October shipment.

During the given week, demand for steel pipe has been slack amid rainy season in northern China, while surging iron ore prices bolstered steel pipe market. Meanwhile, bullish sentiments prevailed among market players, also exerting a positive impact on steel pipe prices.

Rebar futures prices at Shanghai Futures Exchange (SHFE) stand at RMB 3,794/mt ($549/mt) on August 19, down RMB 11/mt ($1.6/mt) or 0.3 percent from August 12.
