US mills announce steep price increases for merchant bar and beams

In letters to customers late last week and early this week, US long product mills including Nucor and Steel Dynamics, Inc. have announced price increases for merchant bar and beam products.

Merchant bar prices will increase by $3.00 cwt. ($66/nt or $60/mt), effective with all new orders as of Dec. 21, 2020.

Beams and structural product prices will increase by $4.00 cwt. ($88/mt or $80/nt), also effective as of Dec. 21, 2020.

Other mills not mentioned are expected to announce similar price increases for merchant bar and beams.
