Wait-and-see mood prevails in local Chinese domestic steel plate market

During the week ending May 23, average steel plate prices in the Chinese domestic market have indicated an overall downtrend, while transaction activity in the overall market has been at low levels. Average steel plate prices in China are presented in the tables below.

During the given week, since steel plate prices have been moving in a downward direction, buyers from downstream industries are mostly maintaining a wait-and-see stance, resulting in slack activity and contributing further to the softness of prices. Meanwhile, domestic prices of semi-finished steel as well as finished steel futures prices in China have indicated decreases, exerting a negative impact on sentiment in the domestic steel plate market. It is expected that steel plate prices in the Chinese domestic market will likely edge down further in the coming week.
