US import hot dipped galvanized (HDG) and Galvalume coil prices have held mostly steady since our last report a week ago, although this could be less about “market settling” and more about “no one buying.”
Trader sources say they believe a trade case is imminent at this point; inventories at US ports remain “quite high” and there isn’t any imminent pressure to buy right away. “There’s too much steel here already,” according to sources close to SteelOrbis, “and with everyone thinking that a trade case will be coming at any minute, there’s no real advantage to offshore buying.”
