Spot market prices for US import 0.012”x40.875” G30 HDG from the UAE, South Africa and Mexico continue to remain stable while US import Galvalume coil 0.019x41.5625 Gr80/AZ55 from Mexico, Brazil and Korea have also held steady, week-over-week.

Import tonnages, however, are down year-over-year.  Preliminary census data from the US Department of Commerce indicates that for the month of July 2019, global import tonnages for hot dipped galvanized sheet and strip was recorded at 190,960 mt, whereas July tonnages from 2018 were recorded at 232,773 mt (census data).  The dip in year-over-year import tons, however, is likely linked to the flurry of offshore buying that took place after Section 232 tariffs were announced in March 2018.
