US domestic hot dipped galvanized (HDG) and Galvalume coil prices have continued to soften since our last report a week ago. Similar to previous weeks, sources throughout the US have said that “there is the published price, and then there’s the price you can actually get if you show up with some tonnage in hand.”
“Everything is flexible and the mills are willing to cut deals,” a source said. “At this point they have to. They have more than enough wiggle room in their profit margins, and there’s no reason that the mills can’t cut deals.”
This is especially true when it comes to dealmaking against coated steel products that are being offered from Mexico, as ex-Mexico lead times are largely similar to lead times from US domestic mills.
