Supplies increase in local Chinese domestic steel plate market

Monday, 16 May 2016 17:02:52 (GMT+3)   |   Shanghai

During the week ending May 16, average steel plate prices in the Chinese domestic market have mostly indicated a declining trend though with some slight upticks at the end of the week, while transaction activity in the overall market has been at decent levels, despite slackening compared to the previous week. Average steel plate prices in China are presented in the tables below.

Domestic steel plate prices are lower compared to one week ago. More steel plate supplies have arrived in the market, exerting pressure on the steel plate market from the supply side, while inventory levels in the market are expected to increase. Currently, in eastern China, purchase prices for slab are relatively high and so local steel plate producers will likely be less willing to buy slab and produce plate. It is thought that steel plate prices in the Chinese domestic market will likely move sideways in the coming week.
