Reference price for Brazilian slabs exports increases in narrow range

The Brazilian producers are negotiating slabs exports at $540/mt, against $535/mt last week, FOB conditions for the basic commercial grades.

This price remains in a range of $530/mt to 540/mt since August 5.

The volume of the Brazilian slabs exports in 2024 is under review, as a possible failure in capturing the volume exported by ArcelorMittal Pecem during the months of August, September, October, and December were recently spotted.

Last week the company informed the local newspaper, Diario do Nordeste, that Pecem exported 2.25 million mt of slabs in 2024, while the numbers from the official foreign trade statistics authority, COMEX, indicated that only 600,000 mt were exported by Pecem in 2024.

According to sources, the divergence derives from procedures in the Port of Pecem, which are currently under review.

Accepting that the numbers of the company are correct, Brazil exported in 2024 a total of 7.17 million mt, and not 5.52 million mt as previously indicated by COMEX.
