The Brazilian slab export price is now $550/metric ton (mt) FOB conditions, up $5/mt from week-earlier levels reported at $545/mt, and continuing a trend that has seen slabs export prices on the rise since pricing was reported at $445/mt in October 2025.
Analysts told SteelOrbis they expect stability or small increases over the next several weeks, reflecting recent devaluations of the US dollar (USD) against the Brazilian Real (BRL). Insiders added that maritime transport between Brazil, the US, and Europe remains unaffected for now as a result of the ongoing conflict in Iran.
And, while this week’s pricing was up only $5/mt, current pricing remains $15/mt higher than levels reported three weeks earlier when pricing was stable for several weeks at $540/mt, FOB conditions for the basic commercial grades. Current pricing remains in line with the levels last seen in August 2024.
The Brazilian Secretariat of Foreign Trade (SECEX), part of the Ministry of Industry, Development and Foreign Trade, has updated its January 2026 data on slab exports. It now reports a shipment of 147,800 mt from Ternium originally listed as going to Uruguay was actually sent to the United States. Additionally, a shipment from ArcelorMittal Tubarão to Belgium has been revised down from 62,000 mt to 41,200 mt, SECEX said.
