During the week ending June 3, average prices of steel plate in the Chinese domestic market have moved on an overall downtrend due to slack demand, while transaction activity in the overall steel plate market has been at low-to-medium levels. Average steel plate prices in China are presented in the table below.
During the given week, steel plate producers’ capacity utilization rate has been stable compared to the previous week, now at comparatively high levels, exerting a negative impact on steel plate market. Meanwhile, ferrous metal futures prices have edged down, also negatively affecting steel plate prices. Since demand from downstream users has slackened, the inventory levels are unlikely see a downtrend in the near future. It is expected that steel plate prices in the Chinese domestic market will edge down in the coming week.
