Local Chinese steel plate market shifts to holiday mode

In the week ending February 16, steel plate prices in the Chinese domestic market have seen slight increases, while transaction activity in the market has been slack. Average steel plate prices in China can be viewed in the SteelOrbis price reports section.

With the approach of the Spring Festival holiday (February 18-24), in the past week most domestic steelmakers have halted their production, while most traders have also left the market, resulting in slack transaction activity. Due to stagnant sales activity, traders have concerns about possible increases in market inventory levels. It is expected that steel plate prices in the Chinese domestic market will move on a stable trend during the holiday period, with a rebound in prices expected after the holiday as steel plate prices are considered to be at low levels at present.
