As of February 5, average prices of steel plate in the Chinese domestic market have decreased on week-on-week basis, while transaction activity in the overall steel plate market has been at low levels. Average steel plate prices in China are presented in the table below.
At the beginning of the given week, the downtrend of semi-finished steel prices in the Chinese domestic market exerted a negative impact on local steel plate prices. However, HRC futures prices in China increased, subsequently providing support for steel plate prices in the spot market. Currently, demand is slack due to the approach of the Chinese New Year holiday (February 15-21) and most market participants will be on holiday as of the end of the current week. It is expected that steel plate prices in the Chinese domestic market will move sideways in the coming week.
