During the week ending June 4, average prices of steel plate in the Chinese domestic market have mostly increased, with slight downticks seen in prices of shipbuilding plate, while transaction activity in the overall steel plate market has been at low-to-medium levels. Average steel plate prices in China are presented in the table below.
During the given week, ferrous metal futures prices in China have moved up, exerting a positive impact on common carbon and low alloy steel plate prices. Meanwhile, semi-finished steel prices have also risen, providing further support for steel plate prices. However, demand for steel plate is not foreseen to improve. It is expected that steel plate prices in the Chinese domestic market will move sideways in the coming week.
