During the week ending May 14, average prices of low alloy medium plate and shipbuilding plate in the Chinese domestic market have increased slightly, though slight downticks have been seen in prices of common carbon medium plate, while transaction activity in the overall steel plate market has been at medium levels. Average steel plate prices in China are presented in the table below.
During the given week, inventories in the medium steel plate market have decreased slightly. Meanwhile, following downticks in HRC futures prices at the beginning of the given week, HRC futures prices recovered in the latter part of the week, providing support for steel plate prices. At the same time, steelmakers' prices are at relatively high levels, which will boost market prices for steel plate. It is thought that steel plate prices in the Chinese domestic market will move sideways in the coming week.
