Demand still weak in Chinese domestic steel plate market

During the week ending August 11, steel plate prices in the Chinese domestic market have indicated a slight downtrend, while transaction activity has remained at low levels. Average steel plate prices in China can be viewed in the SteelOrbis price reports section.

During the given week, market participants have mostly been maintaining a wait-and-see stance amid fluctuations in the steel futures market. Arrivals of new supplies in the market have been at low levels, while inventories in the market have been declining steadily even though overall transaction activity has been slack. It is expected that steel plates prices in the Chinese domestic market will continue their slight downward movement in the coming week though costs will provide a certain degree of support for prices.
