During the week ending January 21, average prices of steel plate in the Chinese domestic market have edged up slightly, while transaction activity in the overall steel plate market has been at low-to-medium levels. Average steel plate prices in China are presented in the table below.
During the given week, HRC futures prices at Shanghai Futures Exchange (SHFE) have moved on an upward trend, exerting a positive impact on the domestic steel plate market. Currently, demand from downstream users has not indicated any improvement. The Chinese New Year holiday (February 2-10) is approaching and so the steel plate market is expected to become quieter. It is believed that steel plate prices in the Chinese domestic market will move sideways in the coming week.
